Welcome to Buellton!
Thousands of travelers have come to know Buellton as "The Home of the Original Split Pea Soup" thanks to the worldwide fame of Andersen's Pea Soup Restaurant. However, there is much more to Buellton than just this simple dish.
More recently Buellton gained fame through the Academy Award winning film "Sideways", that featured many scenes from the popular wine region of the Santa Ynez Valley and the outstanding food at the Hitching Post Restaurant.
Buellton is also known as "Service Town, U.S.A." a name that it earned in 1949 when a newly widened Highway 101 was opened through the heart of the town lined with service stations, motels and diners. In 1964 a new freeway was opened to the east of town leaving an abandoned strip through the center of this former service town. The strip was named "Avenue of the Flags" and dedicated to the town by California Governor Ronald Reagan in 1968.
This wide avenue has since become a source of civic pride and local events, featuring a beautiful parkway of bronze statues, State flags, American flags, and flags representing and honoring each branch of our military.
